Sara Cox
Roles: Church Treasurer
My name is Sara Cox and I have been the treasurer at Beach Lake FM Church since May of 2008. I am blessed to have been born and raised in a Christian home. We used to joke that if the church doors were unlocked and the lights were on, I was probably there. From an early age I was involved in Sunday School, various Bible studies, summer camp, high school student leadership training and I even sang with a youth choir that did concerts in the four states surrounding my home-state of Michigan.
I moved to PA in the fall of 2006. My reasons for leaving my friends and family behind and moving here were not good ones and certainly were not God approved and very quickly I found myself in a not so great situation. My life hit a bumpy road and in true Sara fashion I picked myself up, set my sights on our Savior and became determined to make a life for myself here. I was hired into Wayne Highlands school district as an Accountant Technician in the District Office. That job has been a true blessing. It allowed me to stay in PA, find this great church home, make many new friends and eventually led me to my husband, Christopher.
I still work full-time for the school district but currently I work in the middle school as the administrative assistant to the principal. This is not a position that I ever thought I would be interested in. However, 6 years ago I lost my struggle with infertility and my ability to have children was taken away. I was bitter and mad for many years. I still have trouble seeing newborns and every Mothers Day brings tears. But I have come to realize that God put me in the middle school to take care of 500 students everyday. I get to see to their needs and make sure that for those 7 hours everyday they are safe and as happy as pre-teens can be.
In addition to the school and being the church treasurer, I also work part time for Victims Intervention Program as their bookkeeper. This is an agency that helps abuse victims of all ages get out of their situations and work toward independence. My three jobs are overwhelming and super busy at times, but I wouldn’t change any of it. Each of them gives me an opportunity to show my faith and share the love of our father in Heaven.
Christopher and I have been married for almost 5 years. We met through BLFMC, Christopher was serving on the board at the time that I was hired as the treasurer. Initially I had a not so great opinion of him! But he was persistent and once my life finally settled down we became great friends. Eventually he asked me out to dinner and the rest is history. I look back at the last 9 years and I can see how truly faithful our God is. He had a plan that was bigger than I could have imagined. Even through the tough years, he was there, waiting for me. I am so grateful for that.
Favorite Scripture Verse: Psalms 86:15 - “But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness."
